The PEI Home Renovation Program is closed for now but will re-open in the Spring of 2019. Be sure to look out for announcements in local media, relating to application dates or you can check back on our website.
Eligible applicants of the PEI Home Renovation Programs can receive up to a $6,000 grant to cover the cost of major structural renovations (electrical, heating, life safety, and plumbing) to their homes. Eligible people who are permanent disabled can get up to $8,000 provided that these renovations help to accommodate their disability.
PEI Home Renovation Program Eligibility
You must fulfill the following requirements to qualify for the PEI Home Renovation Programs:
- your combined household income is less than or equal to $35,000;
- value of your property is less than or equal to $145,000;
- tax payments on your property are less than or one year behind at most;
- this property is your primary residence; and
- if you have made applications previously to the PEI Home Renovation Programs, you can only be eligible if you have not met the maximum grant
Note: The lowest earning applicants will receive funding first.
How To Get the PEI Home Renovation Program Grant
Eligible seniors can apply for this grant while filing their personal income tax return. You may qualify for the grant even if you don’t have any income to report.
How to file your Taxes for the grant
- Please read the brochure and application form and PEI Home Renovations Program Policy before sending in your application. Any missed information will cause delays in processing your application.
- Fill out the application.
- Submit your application to any Access PEI location or at the PEI Home Renovation Programs’ office at 161 St. Peters Road in Charlottetown.

Note: You must include the following required supporting documents when submitting your application
Proof of income:
- A CRA (Canada Revenue Agency) Statement of Consent signed by all occupants and homeowners in the home over the age of 18. This does not include student residents between the ages of 18-25 or;

Proof of disability:
- You may be required to submit a Medical Verification Form if you applied for the Renovation Program for Persons with Disabilities.
Proof of post-secondary enrollment:
- If there are dependent(s) in your home between 18- 25 years, enrolled as full-time student(s) at a postsecondary institution, you may need to provide written verification that the student is enrolled in an educational institution.

Prince Edward Island Energy Efficiency Grant Program
This program allows eligible homeowners of Prince Edward Islands who complete certain home energy upgrades to receive a rebate of 15% of the cost of upgrading.Amount: Up to $1500
Prince Edward Island Home Energy Low-Income Program
This program allows qualifying homeowners in Prince Edward Islands to get reimbursements for completing home upgrades like caulking and weatherstripping.
