Ontario Senior Homeowners’ Property Tax Grant

Ontario Senior Homeowners

The Ontario Senior Homeowners’ Property Tax Grant is a yearly grant provided to senior homeowners in the Province of Ontario to help seniors who have low incomes to moderate incomes, offset taxes on their property.

Depending on your adjusted family net income, you may receive up to $500 yearly.

Eligibility

To be eligible for this grant, a senior or their common-law partner or spouse, must, as of the last day of the previous year have:

  • Been at least 64 years old
  • Resided in Ontario.
  • Paid property tax in Ontario during the year
  • Met any of these income requirements:– you were single, widowed or divorced and your income was less than $50,000- you and your common-law partner or spouse had a joint income of less than $60,000
  • owned and lived in your principal residence

To Get This Grant

Eligible seniors can apply for this grant while filing their personal income tax return. You may qualify for the grant even if you don’t have any income to report.

How to file your Taxes for the grant

  • Fill the ON-BEN application form
  • State the amount you paid for property tax on line 6112 of the ON-BEN application
  • Submit the ON-BEN application form

The grant amount depends on information in your income tax return and is paid 4-8 weeks after you get a notice of assessment from the CRA.

Payments can be received either by direct deposit or by cheque.
