Manitoba Hydro Refrigerator Pick Up

manitoba hydro refrigerator pick up

Looking for a Manitoba Hydro refrigerator pick up?

The Power Smart Refrigerator Retirement Program offers an efficient and easy way for customers to recycle their old freezer or fridge.

Customers who apply and qualify for this grant will have their working unit(s) picked up at no charge (FREE) and receive $50 per recycled unit.

Removing an old or second freezer/fridge saves customers up to $100 per year in energy costs. And taking out that old fridge which uses between 1,000 and 2,000 kilowatt-hours per year via the Manitoba Hydro Refrigerator Retirement program ensures that it is recycled in an environmentally responsible way. This, by extension means, the number of appliances that end up in our landfill is reduced.

Eligibility

You must fulfill the following requirements to qualify for the Refrigerator Retirement Program:

  • Be over the age of 18.
  • Be the owner of the appliance(s).
  • Be a Manitoba Hydro residential customer.

Freezer and/or refrigerator must be:

  • working and capable of cooling.
  • at your primary service address.
  • at least 15 years old;

Find the manufacture date of your fridge on the

manufacturer’s sticker. This is often on the back of the fridge

or on a sticker inside.

TIP!

  • At least 10 cubic feet

The size of your unit is the result of multiplying the depth x

width x height (in feet) of the freezer compartment and the

fridge compartment. Add the two results of each multiplication and that’s the total size in cubic feet.

TIP!

For Instance:

  • 1freezer: 2.2?D x 1.0?H x 2.0?W = 4.4 cubic feet;
  • 2fridge: 2.1?D x 3.1?H x 2.2?W = 14.32 cubic feet;
  • 34.44 + 14.32 = 18.76 cubic feet total.

Note

  • The maximum number of appliances per residence is 3.
  • Condominiums, seasonal residences, businesses, and apartments do not qualify.

To schedule a pickup or confirm your eligibility, please call 1-855-5FRIDGE (1-855-537-4343).

TO GET THIS GRANT

You will need:

  • your service address;
  • your Manitoba Hydro account number;
  • your mailing address.

Before the scheduled date of freezer/fridge pickup

  • Empty and clean your appliance, plug it in and keep it running. An appliance that is not working, too small or less than 15 years old will not be removed.
  • Ensure that you keep a clear path to your freezer or refrigerator. Move all household goods out of the path and if need be, remove doors, railings, or other fixtures that make removing your appliance difficult.

On the day of freezer/fridge pickup

  • 30 minutes before the scheduled pickup time, you will receive a reminder phone call that informs you that the pickup crew is on their way. It is important to note that the owner of the appliance(s) must be at home during the pick-up, otherwise, the appliance(s) will not be removed.
  • You will be asked to confirm your mailing address and the eligibility criteria for the appliance(s)
  • You’ll need to review and approve the program’s T&C (terms and conditions) and sign a waiver for the release of the appliance(s)

You should receive your $50 cheque for each qualified appliance in 4 to 6 weeks from the removal date.

To reschedule or cancel

  • For cancellation or rescheduling, call 1-855-5FRIDGE (1-855-537-4343).
  • You should get a notification containing “How to Reschedule” instructions if you missed a scheduled appointment.
  • Missing two appointments automatically disqualifies you from the Program.
