Business Development Program (ABDP) by the Canadian Northern Economic Development Agency

Business Development Program (ABDP)

The Aboriginal Business Development Program aims to increase Aboriginal people’s economic participation through business growth. The program assists Aboriginal company owners with various tasks, such as planning, starting, growing, and/or promoting their businesses. Through this program, eligible majority-owned Aboriginal businesses can get financial help, business information and resource materials, and guidance on other potential funding or business support sources. The scale and breadth of the development, economic history and projections, and the availability of resources are just a few of the variables that will affect how much support a company’s project receives.

Suitable Candidates: Candidates must be of Canadian Aboriginal ancestry (Métis, Inuit, or Non-status Indians, or a majority-owned enterprise, financial institution, or development corporation).

Applicants must have full-time managerial involvement in the planned firm to qualify and must be able to contribute a certain amount of financial equity to the project.

Professional and Institutional Development Program

Projects that build the capacity of First Nations and Inuit communities to carry out fundamental governmental functions, such as planning and risk management, leadership, fundamental administration, and financial management, are funded through the Professional and Institutional Development Program.

The Professional and Institutional Development Program provides funding for initiatives that help communities build their capacity to carry out ten essential aspects of governance, including:

  • lawmaking participation, leadership roles, and community involvement

Artist Development Microgrant by Calgary Arts Development

Artist Development Microgrant

Calgary Arts Development is committed to recognizing and striving to remove institutional bias in its programs, policies, and practices as part of its obligation to Calgarians to provide fair access to public financing. They also acknowledge that their actions—conscious and unconsciously, in the past as well as the present—have benefited some communities while limiting opportunities and outcomes for others, including Indigenous communities, Black communities, people of colour, communities of colour, communities of people with disabilities, communities of Deaf people, and communities of people of all sexual orientations and gender identities.

Suitable Candidates

  • A candidate may only apply for one opening or stage of development.
  • Per person or group, we will only accept one application.
  • The same project or part of a project cannot receive money from more than one Calgary Arts Development program.
  • You cannot apply to this program if you have unfinished final reports from previous awards.
  • Applicants who do not get accepted may apply for the next intake. Each year, you are only eligible for one artist development microgrant.
  • You are limited to four open grants with Calgary Arts Development starting in January 2023, including awards for which a deadline extension has been authorized.

Eligible costs

Activities pertaining to an artist’s professional artistic practice and career development may be funded under this program. This program cannot support the creation and production of creative works.

Activities that qualify include:

  • Developing one’s artistic abilities through instruction, mentoring, experimentation, etc.
  • It was establishing expertise in entrepreneurship, marketing, finance, etc., related to business development.
  • The emergence of outlets for sharing and selling work, the growth of audiences and artistic networks, etc., are all examples of career progression.
  • The program’s funding requirements include that projects must be finished within six months of grant notification.

Internal Energy Research and Development

Office of Energy Research and Development (OERD)

The management and advancement of energy research and development across the federal government is the responsibility of Natural Resources Canada’s Office of Energy Research and Development (OERD). Since 1974, OERD has worked to ensure that national energy research and development priorities are shared across departments and agencies through initiatives like the Program of Energy Research and Development (PERD) and, more recently, a portion of the Energy Innovation Program (EIP).

Through funding related RD&D initiatives in federal departments and agencies, the numerous programs that make up the Federal Internal Energy R&D suite support and encourage energy RD&D. To ensure resources are used wisely, coordinate research efforts, and enhance decision-making in federal energy RD&D investments, OERD builds on synergies among participants.

Suitable Candidates: Regularly or as opportunities arise, Canadian federal departments and organizations participate in the program. The private sector (business, utilities, research institutes, industry groups), other financing organizations, universities, provincial and municipal governments, research organizations, and international organizations are all urged to collaborate.

Eligible costs: Four missions have been created by OERD to direct each research effort across the federal government to strengthen synergies and guarantee alignment with government priorities. Research has been focused, cross-missional synergies have been ensured, and research and development duplication has been minimized through the creation of each mission.

  • Accelerate electrification and maximize the advantages of low-emitting heat and power through increasing energy efficiency and processes to reduce emissions from energy end-use.
  • It will create cleaner pathways for renewable and hydrocarbon fuels.
  • We must maintain reliable and secure energy systems to safeguard Canadians in the face of a changing energy landscape.

Industry Organization Development Program (IODP)

The Industry Organization Development Program supports organizational capacity development in strategic planning, disaster preparedness, and producer/commodity organizations, commissions, boards, and value-added industry associations in Saskatchewan.

The program’s top priorities are training and development in board governance, strategic planning, board leadership development; board succession planning; and aid with amalgamation and rationalization.

Suitable Candidates: The associations, commissions, or boards representing Saskatchewan’s agricultural, livestock, or value-added agriculture industries must be eligible applicants.

Eligible costs

  • associated with organizational development, such as independent contractor expenses. Examples include board leadership development and training, strategic planning, board succession planning, emergency preparedness, crisis planning, and legal or accounting expenses for merger aid.
  • Honoraria and facility expenditures for speakers.
  • Reasonable travel costs are necessary to execute the project work that has been approved.
  • Additional charges for renting or leasing premises, machines, or other items.

Engineering Development Program (EDP)

Participants in the four-year rotating Engineering Development Program (EDP) get engineering experience across various areas. Participants in the EDP are encouraged to obtain their engineering license with the Professional Engineers of Ontario after four years (PEO). They have two more years to use a self-directed job search for regular land employment outside of the program.

Suitable Candidates: This program is for those who have completed a four-year university degree in civil or geotechnical engineering within the last two years and want to apply for their Professional Engineers of Ontario license with PEO.
