Green and Inclusive Community Buildings Program
The Green and Inclusive Community Buildings (GICB) programme intends to construct new community buildings and enhance existing ones, particularly in places where populations have higher needs, while also making them more energy-efficient, low-carbon, resilient, and high-performing. This $1.5 billion, five-year programme will fund green and accessible retrofits, repairs or renovations to existing public community facilities, and the construction of new publicly-accessible community buildings in high-needs, underserved communities across Canada.

Round 3 – Housing Supply Challenge Program
The Northern Access Round is looking for ways to reduce the time, cost, and risk of obtaining resources for building and maintaining an adequate supply of northern and remote homes.
The Northern Access Round has a budget of up to $80 million to invest in and implement supply chain solutions.

Climate Resilience Capacity Building Program
Alberta municipalities and Indigenous communities will receive $4.5 million from the provincial government to review adaptation measures and develop climate resilience plans. This cash will assist you in reducing negative consequences and leveraging opportunities so that you can feel confident in the future of your town.
The Municipal Climate Change Action Centre, a partnership of Alberta Municipalities, Rural Municipalities of Alberta, and the Government of Alberta, designed and administers the Climate Resilience Capacity Building Program.
Eligible Applicants
The first two streams are open to municipalities and Indigenous communities in Alberta, and the Indigenous Climate Resilience Stream is only open to Indigenous communities.
A total of $160,000 from all streams might be awarded to a single community to allow for broad involvement.

Smart Cities Challenge Program
The Smart Cities Challenge is a national competition available to all municipalities, local and regional governments, and Indigenous communities (First Nations, Métis, and Inuit) in Canada. The Challenge encourages municipalities to use a smart city strategy to better their inhabitants’ lives by leveraging innovation, data, and connected technology.

Community Building Recommissioning Grant
The Community Building Recommissioning Grant assists communities in identifying possibilities to reduce whole-building energy use by up to 15% (with even greater savings conceivable) extend equipment life, and lower maintenance costs.

All Canadian local administrations (with the exception of the cities of Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary, Toronto, Ottawa, and Montreal, and the Halifax Regional Municipality, which are named after Low Carbon Cities Canada (LC3)).

Capital Project – GHG Reduction Pathway Retrofit Program
Retrofitting community facilities over time can result in significant reductions in energy use and GHG emissions. Longer-term, multi-measure retrofit capital projects that contribute to a GHG reduction route can be implemented using this money.
Eligible Applicants
Projects must include at least one community building owned by a municipality or non-profit organization to be eligible for this funding.
A community building is an enclosed public space or enclosed workplace that meets the following criteria:
- owned by a municipality or a non-profit organization;
- largely utilized to provide local residents with athletic, recreational, cultural, and community events or services;
- Individuals and communities can benefit from programmes aimed at improving their health and well-being, skills development, and economic development.

Women’s Economic Recovery Challenge Grant Program
The Women’s Economic Recovery Challenge Grant Program supports initiatives run by non-profit organizations in Alberta that help women improve their economic chances by providing methods and solutions to overcome barriers and participate more effectively in the economy.
Eligible Applicants
Non-profit organizations that meet the following requirements are eligible to apply:
- for a minimum of two years as a registered non-profit
- demonstrate at least two years of relevant experience providing community-based economic growth support
- ability to put a grant agreement into action

Alberta Research Capacity Program

The Research Capacity Program (RCP) is a competitive funding programme that supports the acquisition of small equipment and large research infrastructure to help Alberta’s post-secondary institutions build capacity and attract, retain, and develop researchers working on transformative research and applied research.
The following competition streams are included in the RCP:
- College-Industry Innovation (CII) helps colleges and polytechnics build applied research infrastructure.
- Cyberinfrastructure (CYB) provides support for computational and data-intensive research infrastructure.
- Large research infrastructure for research teams of up to ten principle users is supported by Research Infrastructure (RI).
- Small Equipment Grants (SEG) provide funding for individual researchers or small groups to purchase research equipment.

Smart Renewables and Electrification Pathways Program
The Smart Renewables and Electrification Pathways Program (SREPs) gives smart renewable energy and grid modernization projects up to $964 million over four years. This programme will help Canada’s equitable transition to an electrified economy by encouraging the substitution of fossil-fuel-generated power with renewables that can supply important grid services.
Eligible Applicants
Owners of Eligible Projects are eligible recipients, which may include:
- Validly incorporated or registered legal entities in Canada;
- Departments and agencies of provincial, territorial, regional, and municipal administrations;
- Tribal Councils, National and Regional Indigenous Communities and Governments
- Indigenous for-profit and non-profit organizations, as well as Indigenous councils or groups.
Note: If an Applicant is a newly formed Limited Partnership, the Program may require the Applicant to get a Project Guarantor. The Guarantor will be needed to sign a form of Guarantee up to the requested Program financing amount, as given by the Program.

Building Energy Retrofit Accelerator Program
The Building Energy Retrofit Accelerator programme helps commercial, light industrial, and institutional buildings in Edmonton improve their energy efficiency. Participants gain from quick and long-term cost benefits by reducing their buildings’ greenhouse gas emissions thanks to financial incentives for retrofit initiatives. Upgrades to HVAC systems, windows, lighting fixtures, building envelopes, and much more are eligible for rebates of up to $125,000 per building each year.

Large commercial, light industrial, and institutional buildings in Edmonton can take advantage of Edmonton’s Building Energy Retrofit Accelerator. Multi-family buildings, such as apartments and condominiums, have common areas that are also eligible.

Recreation Energy Conservation Program
The Recreation Energy Conservation (REC) programme assists municipally owned recreation facilities in reducing energy use and GHG emissions by providing financial incentives to find and implement energy-saving opportunities. Municipalities can get rebates for Scoping Audits and Engineering Studies that help them make investment decisions, as well as rebates for Implementation Projects that help them make energy-efficient retrofits in their buildings.
Eligible Applicants
Participation in the REC programme is open to the following organizations:
- Municipalities: The REC programme is open to all municipalities in Alberta that have been designated as such. A “municipality” is defined as follows in Section 1(1)(s) of the Municipal Government Act:
- a municipality, a city, a town, a village, a summer village, a municipal district, or a specialized municipality,
- a municipality established under the Parks Towns Act, or
- a municipality established by special legislation; or
- the geographical area within a municipality’s boundaries, if the circumstance warrants it, subclauses I to (ii) (iii).
- If the Project is located within a municipally-owned facility, non-profit community-related organizations (CROs) are eligible to participate in the REC program. While CROs are eligible to participate, the municipality must complete and sign the REC Application and the Offer Letter. The municipality will receive all rebate reimbursements made under the scheme. Case-by-case evaluations of community-related organization participation will be conducted.
