Yukon Govt Announces $150 Rebate on Electricity Bills

To help residents with their high electricity bills, the Yukon government has announced a $150 rebate on all residential electricity bills. The rebate will be applied automatically to each bill, and there is no application process necessary. Eligible customers will receive the rebate regardless of their income or family size.

This announcement comes as welcome news to many Yukoners struggling to keep up with the rising cost of living in the territory. The rebate will help offset the high cost of electricity, one of the most significant expenses for families in the Yukon.

For the next three months, Yukoners will receive a slight discount on their electricity costs. On Tuesday, the Yukon government announced a new $150 rebate on all non-government ATCO Electric and Yukon Energy electricity bills.

According to the government, the $50 monthly rebate will appear automatically on bills in about eight weeks, regardless of energy usage.

“This is to assist Yukoners, as we know that prices are growing. We all know that the conflict in Ukraine has increased the cost of fuel and food, “Minister of Energy, Mines, and Resources John Streicker stated.

The rebate will show on all non-government residential and commercial electricity consumers’ bills as a $50 credit each month for three months. In around eight weeks, rebates will begin to appear on bills. This incentive is in addition to the existing Residential Interim Electrical Rebate.

The Interim Electrical Rebate lowers the monthly cost of the first 1,000 kilowatt hours for residential users, saving Yukoners up to $270 per year. Even though the Yukon has the lowest electricity rates in the North, Yukoners and local companies are experiencing the effects of growing global living costs.

The Inflation Relief Rebate is one of the ways we’re making life more affordable, and Yukoners and small businesses will save $150 on their electricity bills in the coming months.
