Grants in Support of Compensation for Employers of Reservists Program
Employers of Reservists and self-employed Reservists benefit from the Compensation for Employers of Reservists Program (CERP), a Department of National Defence (DND) grant programme for which the Department of Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) provides administrative support. CERP provides an opportunity to conduct outreach and bring awareness to the business community and educational institutions about the important role, training, and special skills reservists bring to the military and their personal careers outside of the Canadian Armed Forces, in addition to awarding grants to employers of reservists and self-employed reservists (CAF).
Eligible Applicants
- You must be a Canadian employer of a reservist employee who is a member of the Primary Reserve or Canadian Rangers (excluding the federal government, federal agencies, and Crown Corporations).
- The reservist employee must serve on a Chief of Defence Staff-directed operation for at least 30 days, as certified by his or her Reserve Commanding Officer.
- Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC) must receive your completed Grant Application Package and other needed paperwork no later than 12 months after the reservist returns from active military duty (which would include any post-deployment activities that are mandatory and part of the mission).
- Prior to the leave of absence for active military duty, you must be able to submit evidence proving that the deploying reservist employee worked for you for a minimum of 30 hours per week for 13 weeks (three months).
- Prior to the leave of absence for active military duty, self-employed reservists must provide needed documents indicating that the business is actual, active, and constitutes the primary source of employment/income for a minimum of 13 weeks (three months).
- Employers and self-employed reservists who are deployed for more than 18 months are eligible for remuneration up to the program’s limit of 18 months.

Youth Internship Incentive Program
The Youth Internship Incentive Program aims to expand the number of companies that support work-integrated learning internships in trades, technology, and in-demand jobs for young people. This initiative will increase an employer’s ability to meet their goals by offering a financial incentive, as well as enhance possibilities for kids that correspond with Alberta’s skilled worker needs. The main goals are to assist employers who are new to offering CAREERS internships, established employers who want to extend their ability to provide more internships, and employers across the province.
Employers Who Qualify

Science Horizons Youth Internship Program by Biotalent Canada
The Science Horizons Youth Internship Program is a wage subsidy programme designed to help recent graduates who are eligible to work in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM) professions gain job experience in green economy-related fields.
The programme pays 80% of a participant’s salary up to a maximum of $25,000 in remuneration. Employers can use the programme to find the talent they need, and graduates can learn skills to find full-time jobs in environmental industries. Employers may be eligible for up to $5,000 in training, skills development, and/or wrap-around service in addition to the wage subsidy contribution.
Employers can use the Science Horizons Youth Internship Program to:
- Obtain funding to hire scientific and technical personnel with a lower financial risk.
- Expand their company
- Gain access to a pool of workers eager to put their abilities to work.
- Develop fresh employees inside their organization
Eligibility: Participants must meet the following criteria:
- At the start of the internship, you must be under the age of 30.
- Graduated from a post-secondary university in the last three years with a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics
- Persons who are Canadian citizens, permanent residents, or have been granted refugee status in Canada.
- According to the relevant provincial and federal rules and regulations, I am legally entitled to work in Canada.
- Employment Insurance (EI) benefits are not being received.
The following companies are eligible for the Science Horizons programme:

Co-ops and Internships by the University of Manitoba

Rapid Testing Program
Employers and service providers can apply for complimentary COVID-19 screening kits to use in their COVID-19 screening programmes.
Rapid testing screening programmes can identify pre-symptomatic and asymptomatic patients — people who are unaware they are infected with COVID-19 – so they can be isolated early, and the disease can be contained. People with symptoms or known exposure must use Alberta Health Services’ online assessment tool to get tested.
In long-term care, outbreaks, hospitals, homeless shelters, and industries, rapid test kits were effectively piloted.
Eligible Applicants
Any governmental, private, or non-profit business or service provider having an established COVID-19 screening programme is eligible for the quick testing programme.

Mitacs Internship Programs for Albertans
Alberta sponsors approximately 1,275 internship opportunities for students and researchers each year in collaboration with Mitacs, post-secondary institutions, and industry.

The Canada-Alberta Job Grant is a training programme in which a business applies for qualified training costs on behalf of current or future employees. Employers select who gets training and what kind of training their employees require.
The Workforce Development Agreement provides funding from the Canadian government.

Youth Employment Program (YEP) by National Research Council Canada
The Government of Canada has committed to assisting young Canadians (aged 15 to 30) in obtaining career information, developing skills, finding suitable jobs, and remaining employed through the Youth Employment Strategy. The Youth Employment Strategy aids employers in employing young Canadians through federal departments and organizations, among others.
Under the Youth Employment Strategy, the NRC Industrial Research Aid Program (IRAP) gives financial assistance to small and medium-sized firms (SMEs) in order to hire young talent. This programme helps highly trained young people adapt to a rapidly changing labour market, in addition to serving the needs of innovative SMEs.
