Saskatchewan EnerGuide for Houses Retrofit Grants

Province/Territory: Saskatchewan

Rebate Amount: Up to $5,000

Description: Get up to $5,000 in provincial rebates when you complete an EnerGuide for Houses evaluation and do renovations to make your home more energy efficient. Renovations that are eligible for rebates include heating and ventilation system upgrades, insulation, air sealing and draft proofing, upgrading air conditioning and water heating systems, and water conservation recommendations such as low flow or dual flush toilets. A full list of eligible improvements is here.

Steps to Get This Rebate:

  1. Contact a service organization to have a pre-retrofit energy evaluation. A list of service organizations can be found at the bottom of this page.
  2. After the energy evaluation is done, the service organization will give you a report that will suggest energy-saving renovations, and how much money you can get back in rebates.
  3. Do the renovations within 18 months of the evaluation.
  4. After the renovations are done, have the service organization do a post-retrofit energy evaluation.
  5. The service organization will submit the results of the post-retrofit energy evaluation to Natural Resources Canada (the federal department responsible for the ecoENERGY Retrofit program).
  6. SaskEnergy will send you a rebate cheque for both the provincial and federal retrofit rebate programs.

When the Rebate Ends:

March 31st, 20011

I looked at the rebate program … found out that the people who do the first assessment charge a fee of up to $180 to do the assessment … then we still have to purchase from the contractor who charges full retail … THEN when you get the work done and you have to have the post assessment, these people again charge for the service … By time i apply for the rebate from your program, the rebate funds are used up on the assesment group and I still pay the full retail amount for the furnace … so I bought the furnace anyway …
What is the value of the rebate program when we end up only giving the money away to someone who tells us what we already know? Can you explain any of this to me??? Will you be willing to send me the rebate check anyway???

I have received my federal grant check which took nearly 3 months. Am still waiting on the provincial check for the other half of my grant money. 3 months is your deadline yet I don’t have my money, interest has be building in my line of credit since I completed my renovations and inspections in the end of January. How much longer can I expected to wait?
