Rebate Amount: Up to $5,000

Description:
Get a government rebate up to $5,000 when you have an energy evaluation done and make energy efficiency improvements to your home.

Steps to Get This Rebate:

Have an ecoENERGY Retrofit energy evaluation done. This evaluation must be done by an accredited energy advisor. Find an advisor in your area here.
Once you receive the energy evaluation report, look at the rebate guide to see how much money you can get back for the recommended home improvements.
Do the home improvements.
Get another energy evaluation done, to see how much more energy efficient your house is.
The energy advisor will send your final energy evaluation to Natural Resources Canada (the government department that runs the ecoENERGY Retrofit program).
Natural Resources Canada will send you a rebate cheque.

Saskatchewan Home Energy Improvement Program for Low-income Households

Rebate Amount: Up to $4,700 per household

Description:
Get up to $4,700 in government rebates when you make energy-saving home improvements, such as heating system upgrades, insulation and draft proofing.

To be eligible, households must have a gross annual income of less than $30,000 in southern Saskatchewan and less than $42,500 in northern Saskatchewan.

The amount of the grant available varies by geographic region. Homeowners of single, semi-detached, and row housing are eligible for a grant of up to $4,000 in southern Saskatchewan and a grant of up to $4,700 in northern Saskatchewan.

Rental property owners of single, semi-detached and row housing are eligible for a grant of up to $3,500 in southern Saskatchewan and a grant of up to $4,200 in northern Saskatchewan.

Homeowners and rental property owners of multiple-unit buildings and rooming houses are eligible for a grant of up to $1,000 per unit in southern Saskatchewan and $1,200 per unit in northern Saskatchewan.

Steps to Get This Rebate:

Submit a SHEIP (Saskatchewan Home Energy Improvement Program) application form, along with income verification and verification of property ownership, to:
You will be sent a letter confirming eligibility for SHEIP assistance.
Once you receive a letter confirming your eligibility for SHEIP, contact a licensed service organization to arrange to have a pre-retrofit energy evaluation done on your home.
Submit a copy of the pre-retrofit energy evaluation to your SHEIP Grant Administrator, who will then determine which retrofit item(s) will be funded through SHEIP.
Complete the home improvements.
Get a post-evaluation of your home done by a service organization.
Submit a copy of the final evaluation along with invoices to your SHEIP Grant Administrator. Once SHEIP receives confirmation of the amount you have received through the provincial and federal retrofit grant programs, your SHEIP top-up grant will be issued.

Saskatchewan EnerGuide for Houses Retrofit Grants

Rebate Amount: Up to $5,000

Description:
Get up to $5,000 in provincial rebates when you complete an EnerGuide for Houses evaluation and do renovations to make your home more energy efficient.

Renovations that are eligible for rebates include heating and ventilation system upgrades, insulation, air sealing and draft proofing, upgrading air conditioning and water heating systems, and water conservation recommendations such as low flow or dual flush toilets. A full list of eligible improvements is here.

Steps to Get This Rebate:

Contact a service organization to have a pre-retrofit energy evaluation. A list of service organizations can be found at the bottom of this page.
After the energy evaluation is done, the service organization will give you a report that will suggest energy-saving renovations, and how much money you can get back in rebates.
Do the renovations within 18 months of the evaluation.
After the renovations are done, have the service organization do a post-retrofit energy evaluation.
The service organization will submit the results of the post-retrofit energy evaluation to Natural Resources Canada (the federal department responsible for the ecoENERGY Retrofit program).
SaskEnergy will send you a rebate cheque for both the provincial and federal retrofit rebate programs.

Saskatchewan Sales Tax Exemption for New Energy-Efficient Household Appliances

Rebate Amount: 7% of the purchase price

Description:
Don’t pay the 7% provincial sales tax on new ENERGY STAR qualified freezers, refrigerators, dishwashers and clothes washers.

The exemption also applies to new appliances leased for at least one year. Combined clothes washer/dryer units sold for a single price are exempt from 60% of the sales tax payable.

Appliances purchased (or leased for at least one year) between October 1, 2003 and March 31, 2005 are also eligible for a refund of the provincial sales tax paid.

Steps to Get This Rebate:

Automatically receive the exemption at the time of purchase.

Description:
Don’t pay the 7% provincial sales tax on new ENERGY STAR qualified forced-air furnaces and boilers purchased on or after November 9, 2005.

New ENERGY STAR ground and air source heat pumps purchased on or after July 1, 2006 are also exempt from the 7% provincial sales tax.

The exemptions also apply to new appliances leased for at least one year. The exemption applies to all parts and equipment that form part of the new furnace, boiler, or ground or air source heat pump as supplied at the time of purchase or installation, but does not apply to heating distribution systems such as ductwork.

Steps to Get This Rebate:

Automatically receive the exemption at the time of purchase.

Steps to Get This Rebate:

Either buy a home that is EnerGuide Rated 77+ or R2000, OR renovate your existing home to increase its EnerGuide rating by at least 5 points (to a minimum rating of 40).
Supply documentation certifying that your home meets the standards above:
- If you’re purchasing a home, provide a copy of the first page of your EnerGuide evaluation report or R-2000 certification
- If you’re renovating your home, provide a copy of both the pre-improvement and the post-improvement Energuide for houses evaluation report. (Find an energy advisor to do the evaluation here.)
