Steps to Get This Rebate:

1. Have an ecoENERGY Retrofit energy evaluation done. This evaluation must be done by an accredited energy advisor. Find an advisor in your area here.
2. Once you receive the energy evaluation report, look at the rebate guide to see how much money you can get back for the recommended home improvements.
3. Do the home improvements.
4. Get another energy evaluation done, to see how much more energy efficient your house is.
5. The energy advisor will send your final energy evaluation to Natural Resources Canada (the government department that runs the ecoENERGY Retrofit program).
6. Natural Resources Canada will send you a rebate cheque.

Description:
Homeowners can receive a free home assessment of their on-site water wells and septic system, as well as their home oil tank.

Participants will learn about the importance of regular maintenance of these systems as well as water quality testing. In addition, participants will receive:

• a water and wastewater assessment for their property
• a $50 rebate on septic tank pumping
• a water quality sampling kit
• water saving devices
• samples of environmentally friendly cleaners
• a home oil tank system checklist.

Following the home assessment, a grant of up to $3,000 may be available for septic system repairs to qualifying homeowners.

Description:
Get up to a $5,000 government rebate when you install a solar water heating system in your home or business.

Nova Scotia homeowners who purchase and install a new solar water heating system are eligible for a rebate from the provincial government of 10% of the total installed cost (up to a maximum rebate of $5,000).

Systems include those used for domestic use, process use, space heating and year-round pool heating. The rebate applies to systems designed for year-round operation.

Get up to $1,000 in government rebates when you upgrade the energy efficiency of your new house.

Under the EnerGuide for New Houses program, a certified energy evaluator examines your building plans and makes recommendations on upgrades to improve energy efficiency.

After your home is built, an EnerGuide for Houses evaluation is performed on your home to determine the energy rating. EnerGuide ratings are based on a scale of 1-100. The cost of the energy evaluation is $250, but you can get that back (or more) if you build to an EnerGuide rating of at least 77.

Here’s how much you can get back:

• EnerGuide rating of 77 = $250 government rebate
• EnerGuide rating of 80 = $750 government rebate
• Energuide rating of R-2000 = $1,000 government rebate

Description:
Get up to $1,500 in government rebates when you make energy saving improvements to your home.

The actual amount of the rebates depend on how much the efficiency rating of your house is increased as a result of improvements made after an energy evaluation.

After the energy efficiency improvements are made, a second evaluation needs to be done to determine the change in the efficiency rating. The second evaluation must be scheduled within 18 months of the first evaluation.

Low- to moderate-income homeowners can get the following incentives:

• Reimbursement of the cost of a home energy evaluation ($150)
• A rebate of up to $2,000 for home improvements, depending on how much the efficiency rating of your house is increased as a result of the improvements.
• An additional grant of $400 for participating in the EnerGuide program.

Description:
Get a 10% discount on your Genworth mortgage insurance when you buy a home that has a EnerGuide rating of 77+ or R2000, or refinance your home to make energy-saving renovations. You?ll also get access to an online discount program for commonly purchased items.

Steps to Get This Rebate:

1. Either buy a home that is EnerGuide Rated 77+ or R2000, OR renovate your existing home to increase its EnerGuide rating by at least 5 points (to a minimum rating of 40).
2. Supply documentation certifying that your home meets the standards above:
   • If you’re purchasing a home, provide a copy of the first page of your EnerGuide evaluation report or R-2000 certification

Rebate Amount: Not a rebate, a $24,000 forgivable loan

Description:
Get a $24,000 forgivable loan toward the construction of a rental unit in your home. Once completed, the unit must be rented out to a low-income senior, or person with a disability.

The purpose of the Residential Rehabilitation Assistance Program (RRAP) for Secondary/Garden Suites is to create affordable housing for low-income seniors and adults with a disability.

Some important things to keep in mind about the RRAP:

• Work carried out before the RRAP loan is approved is not eligible.
• You must rent the unit out to a low-income senior, or person with a disability, for 15 years
• There’s a cap on the amount of rent you can charge the tenant (for example in Ottawa the cap for a one-bedroom unit rented to one person is $815 per month)

Description:
Get part of the GST or HST back when you build or buy a new house, or substantially renovate your house.

The following projects qualify for the rebate:

• Building a home or contracting someone to build one
• Buying a newly constructed or substantially renovated home from a builder
• Buying a newly constructed house from a builder, where you lease the land from the builder under the same agreement to buy the house
• Substantially renovating a home or building a major addition to one. (”Substantially renovating” means removing or replacing 90% or more of the interior of an existing house.)
• Rebuilding a home destroyed by fire
• Buying a share of the capital stock in a newly constructed cooperative housing project

Note that houses above $450,000 in market value (after the renovations) do NOT qualify for this rebate.
