Steps to Get This Rebate:

1. Have an ecoENERGY Retrofit energy evaluation done. This evaluation must be done by an accredited energy advisor. Find an advisor in your area here.
2. Once you receive the energy evaluation report, look at the rebate guide to see how much money you can get back for the recommended home improvements.
3. Do the home improvements.
4. Get another energy evaluation done, to see how much more energy efficient your house is.
5. The energy advisor will send your final energy evaluation to Natural Resources Canada (the government department that runs the ecoENERGY Retrofit program).
6. Natural Resources Canada will send you a rebate cheque.

Rebate Amount: Up to $3,250 per home

Description:
Get a government rebate of up to $3,250 if your home is R-2000 certified or has an EnerGuide for Houses rating of 80 or more.

There are three levels of financial incentives available:

• The basic grant of $1,000 for new EnerGuide 80 or R-2000 certified homes, regardless of the heating system type
• The Central Heating – Electric Grant of $2,000 for new EnerGuide 80 or R-2000 certified homes that have an electric boiler, furnace or ENERGY STAR rated (or equivalent) air source heat pump as the primary source of heating.
• The Central Heating – Non-Electric Grant of $3,000 for new EnerGuide 80 or R-2000 certified homes that have an eligible non-electric central heating system such as a natural gas, oil or wood furnace or boiler or a geothermal heat pump.

An additional ENERGY STAR bonus incentive of $250 is available as a top-up to any of the three grants to homeowners who install energy efficient lighting and purchase two ENERGY STAR home appliances. Eligible appliances include refrigerators, freezers, and clothes washers.

3. Mail in the application form and the following documentation:

Rebate Amount: Interest-free loan of up to $10,000, or a grant up to $2,000, plus $100 towards the cost of an EnerGuide evaluation

Description:
Get either an interest-free loan of up to $10,000, or a rebate of up to 20% of the cost of renovations (up to a maximum rebate of $2,000) when you do renovations that improve the energy efficiency rating of your home.

Steps to Get This Rebate:

2. Give this coupon to the energy advisor for a $100 discount on the Initial Evaluation. (Efficiency NB will pay an additional $300 directly to the energy advisor. You’ll end up paying between $50 and $200, depending on the size of your house.)
3. The energy advisor will perform an initial home energy efficiency assessment and provide you with a detailed Initial Evaluation report which includes: 

•  
  • An analysis of your home’s present energy loss;
  • Recommendations for upgrades to your home;
  • Your home’s current ecoENERGY energy efficiency rating
  • Your home’s potential energy efficiency rating upon completion of the upgrades

4. Complete your upgrades following the recommendations in the Initial Evaluation report
5. Have a follow-up evaluation (Final Evaluation) done after the energy upgrade work has been completed and a new rating is provided
6. Submit your completed application form, along with the following documents:

  • ecoENERGY based Evaluation Initial and finale reports;
  • Provincial checklist confirming upgrades;
  • Receipts for upgrade work (materials and labour).

Homeowners and landlords must have incomes below or at established income levels for the area in which they reside.Assistance for homeowners is in the form of a non-repayable grant and a repayable loan.The value of the grant depends on the type of building structure. Single, row, and semi-detached buildings are eligible for a grant of up to $4,500 per unit. Multiple unit buildings are eligible for grant of up to $1,500 per unit.

Rebate Amount: 10% discount on mortgage insurance premium + access to online discount program

Description:
Get a 10% discount on your Genworth mortgage insurance when you buy a home that has a EnerGuide rating of 77+ or R2000, or refinance your home to make energy-saving renovations. You?ll also get access to an online discount program for commonly purchased items.

Steps to Get This Rebate:

1. Either buy a home that is EnerGuide Rated 77+ or R2000, OR renovate your existing home to increase its EnerGuide rating by at least 5 points (to a minimum rating of 40).
2. Supply documentation certifying that your home meets the standards above:
   • If you’re purchasing a home, provide a copy of the first page of your EnerGuide evaluation report or R-2000 certification

Rebate Amount: Not a rebate, a $24,000 forgivable loan

Description:
Get a $24,000 forgivable loan toward the construction of a rental unit in your home. Once completed, the unit must be rented out to a low-income senior, or person with a disability.

The purpose of the Residential Rehabilitation Assistance Program (RRAP) for Secondary/Garden Suites is to create affordable housing for low-income seniors and adults with a disability.

Some important things to keep in mind about the RRAP:

• Work carried out before the RRAP loan is approved is not eligible.
• You must rent the unit out to a low-income senior, or person with a disability, for 15 years
• There’s a cap on the amount of rent you can charge the tenant (for example in Ottawa the cap for a one-bedroom unit rented to one person is $815 per month)

Rebate Amount: Approximately 1.5% for homes valued under $350,000; less for homes between $350,000 and $450,000. Homes over $450,00 don’t qualify

Description:
Get part of the GST or HST back when you build or buy a new house, or substantially renovate your house.

The following projects qualify for the rebate:

• Building a home or contracting someone to build one
• Buying a newly constructed or substantially renovated home from a builder
• Buying a newly constructed house from a builder, where you lease the land from the builder under the same agreement to buy the house
• Substantially renovating a home or building a major addition to one. (”Substantially renovating” means removing or replacing 90% or more of the interior of an existing house.)
• Rebuilding a home destroyed by fire
• Buying a share of the capital stock in a newly constructed cooperative housing project

Note that houses above $450,000 in market value (after the renovations) do NOT qualify for this rebate.

Rebate Amount: 10% of the cost of CMHC mortgage insurance

Description:
Get a 10% refund on the cost of your mortgage loan insurance when you buy an energy efficient home, purchase a home and make energy-saving renovations, or renovate your existing home to make it more energy efficient.

You can also get extended amortization up to 40 years through this program.

For home buyers and builders, the refund and extended amortization are available for houses that:

• Are energy-efficient R-2000 models;
• Have an energy efficiency rating of 77 (on or after July 27th, 2005) or above;
• Were or will be built under a CMHC-eligible energy-efficient building program (list of programs is here); or
• the building in which the condominium unit you’re buying (on or after July 27th, 20051) is 25% more energy efficient, than if constructed to meet the requirements of the Model National Energy Code for Buildings (MNECB), you could be eligible for a 10% mortgage loan insurance premium refund and extended amortization when you use CMHC insured financing to purchase that home or condominium unit.

For home renovators, the refund is available for:

• Houses with an energy rating of less than 77 (after July 27^th, 2005). Renovations to the house must increase the house’s rating by at least 5 points and to a value of at least 40.

Steps to Get This Rebate:

1. Find out how energy efficient your house will be when it’s built, or will be after it’s renovated. Find this out from your builder or an NRCan qualified energy advisor
2. If the house doesn’t meet the required energy efficiency rating (a rating of 77 or above), do the necessary renovations to increase the rating by at least 5 points, and to a minimum rating of 40
3. Arrange for a CMHC-insured mortgage through your bank or mortgage broker
4. Do another energy assessment to confirm the increase in energy efficiency
5. Fill out the mortgage insurance refund application
6. Send the application to:
